The Health Initiative is seeking a dynamic, approachable individual to assist St. Lawrence County residents in enrolling in Health Insurance through the NYSOH Marketplace. As a Navigator, the successful applicant will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to Health Insurance procurement through the NYSOH Marketplace for Individuals, Families and Businesses.

The successful applicant will have strong computer skills, including the ability and willingness to work extensively online, and be comfortable speaking in front of individuals and/or groups. Applicants must be willing and able to travel with a reliable personal vehicle, and work evenings and Saturdays.

Project Coordinator needed to implement the New York State funded Cancer Prevention in Action Program, empowering communities to address targeted prevention areas,including paid time off for screenings, reducing the risk of skin cancer among at-risk groups, and promoting the HPV vaccine. The Coordinator will manage and collaboratively implement a multi-component project across a four county region by fostering and mobilizing community allies and champions.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the establishment and strengthening of policy, systems and environmental changes, providing health policy support services to communities and cancer control content.

Bachelor’s degree required.

 Community Educator needed to primarily foster and build community support for the public health priorities of the agency's NYS funded Cancer Prevention in Action Program. Ideal candidate will be a dynamic public speaker, strategic in use of media for advocacy and able to rally the community in supporting public health improvement. The Educator will identify, educate, and equip community champions and allies with the necessary tools to assist in the projects goal. This person will assist the Project Manager, Executive Director and sub-contractors with the implementation of multi-component evidence-based policies, place based strategies, and promising practices to increase demand for environmental changes and/or policies that reinforce healthy behaviors and reduce cancer risk.

The ideal candidate will be able to work across a variety of grant funded projects and have previous experience in providing health policy support services to communities and cancer control content.

Teens-HELP-Logo

Full time Sexual Health Educator needed for our Teens HELP team. Funded by NYSDOH, we deliver evidence based sexual health education and assist youth to access sexual health care. We work in schools and community settings to support teen sexual health. Some topics we cover are negotiation skills, healthy relationships, anatomy, contraception, consent, and minors’ rights to sexual health care.

Success in this field requires knowledge of rural health barriers, self-motivation, creativity, and a desire to empower teens. We must juggle traditional classroom skills with innovative engagement efforts. Our changing world means we use a wide variety of tools such as print, video, social media, radio, websites, apps, and person to person communication.

This position requires daily transportation in St. Lawrence & Lewis Counties as well as some overnight travel throughout upstate NY. Professional development may occasionally include travel to multi-day conferences in other states.

A Bachelor's degree is required.
