Teens HELP is a teen pregnancy prevention and sexual health education program. This program is designed to create a network of people of all ages who want to make sure youth reach their full potential. Since its start in 2011, Teens HELP has positioned youth as the primary agents of change. We believe everyone has a role to play in helping youth make healthy decisions, and through youth empowerment we have developed strategies that work for youth.
We use a combination of North Country ingenuity and current technology to serve the largest geographic territory with the smallest grant funding in New York State.
- Mission: To reduce the challenges of teen pregnancy and help teens of St. Lawrence County make healthy sexual decisions
- Funding: Supported through the New York State Department of Health Comprehensive Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (NYSDOH CAPP) Grant.
GOAL 1: Provide comprehensive, age appropriate, evidence based, and medically accurate sexuality education to promote abstinence, delay the onset of sexual activity, and reduce the practice of risky sexual behaviors among youth.
GOAL 2: Ensure access to comprehensive reproductive health care and family planning services for teens to prevent pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and HIV/AIDS.
GOAL 3: Expand educational, social and recreational, vocational and economic opportunities for teens-including high risk and disconnected youth-to provide alternatives to sexual activity and to develop skills that can support a successful transition into healthy young adulthood.
GOAL 4: Advance a comprehensive and sustainable local community effort to improve the community environment for adolescents, reduce initial and subsequent adolescent pregnancy, reduce STIs, HIV/AIDS rates, and reduce health disparities related to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and geography.
